Manager Craig Brewster made one change to the eleven that started against Aberdeen in the 2-0 win last Saturday with youngster Jamie Duff coming in for the injured Grant Munro. New signing Adam Rooney took a place on the bench as did Dale Gillespie.
Roy McBain had an effort on goal in the early stages when a Dougie Imrie cross bounced right through the penalty box to him but Hamilton goalkeeper Tomas Cerny gathered easily at his near post.
Centre half Jamie Duff started his debut looking assured and prompted a round of applause from the home fans when he won a clean tackle on the half-way line against James McArthur who was breaking for Hamilton.
Hamilton defender Chris Swailes came close to netting our opener in the 20th minute when he headed a Don Cowie cross but it flew inches past the post and behind for a corner.
Don Cowie's late runs into the box were causing Hamilton problems and on the 32nd minute he met a Richard Hastings cross with his head but his effort from 12 yards looped over the bar.
Four minutes later Hamilton created their best opening of the game, Tony Stevenson swung over a corner kick which was headed on by Simon Mensing to striker Offiong six yards from goal but somehow he managed to head over the bar.
A mistake by youngster Jamie Duff allowed Hamilton to open the scoring right on half-time when Richard Offiong stole the ball off him 30 yards from goal, raced in and slid the ball past Michael Fraser.
Half time score: ICT 0 - Hamilton Academical 1 (Offiong 45 mins)
Yesterday's signing Adam Rooney came on at half-time for midfielder Russell Duncan who had been struggling with a knock. Rooney made an instant surging past left back Easton in the box but there were no takers for his cut back across goal.
Jamie Duff picked up a yellow card for a foul on Mark Corcoran in the 68th minute on the half-way line.
We made our second substitute of the afternoon on the 70th minute with Barry Wilson replacing Don Cowie on the right flank. With nine minutes left we made our final change and went to a 3-4-3 formation with Rory McAliister coming on for Duff.
Rory was nearly the hero with three minutes left to play when he snuck in at the back post to meet an Ian Black cross from the right but he headed down into the ground and the ball bounced wide of goal.
