As expected after the disappointing defeat to Falkirk last Saturday Manager Craig Brewster made changes to the side that travelled to Rugby Park today to take on Kilmarnock. Into the starting eleven came David Proctor, Graham Bayne and making his first start for ICT, youngster Iain Vigurs. Onto the bench dropped Richard Hastings and Don Cowie with Dennis Wyness out of the squad altogether while Richie Hart was also included amongst the substitutes as we looked for our first win since the 5th of January.
We started with an unfamiliar 3-5-2 formation which saw David Proctor slotting in at the back and Ross Tokely given licence to get up and down the right flank.
We had the first shot of the game in the 5th minute after an encouraging start when Ian Black made space for himself and let fly with a left footed shot from 22 yards but Killie goalkeeper Alan Combe saved easily.
The lively start to the game continued when a Kilmarnock move down the right cut us open but a lack of composure from midfielder Craig Bryson saw him slide his shot past the left hand side of the post from six yards.
In the 12th minute a clash between Kilmarnock defender Frazer Wright and Ross Tokely resulted in referee Stephen Finnie awarding us a penalty kick and midfielder Ian Black stepped up and confidently slid the ball home into the net with goalkeeper Alan Combe going the wrong way.
Ten minutes later a tug on Ian Black's shirt on the left hand side of the box by Killie defender Jamie Fowler looked like another penalty but this time the referee waved away our strong appeals.
A minute later Kilmarnock created a good chance to net the equaliser, Mehdi Taouil released Garry Hay down the left flank and his cross into the box found the head of Danny Invincibile but he could not control his header and the ball looped over the bar.
Kilmarnock hit the equaliser in the 38th minute, Ian Black fouled Danny Invincibile on the edge of the box and Iain Flannigan curled a superb free kick towards the top right corner which smashed of the post. Quickest to react was defender Frazer Wright who stabbed the ball home into the net to make the score 1-1.
Half time score: Kilmarnock 1 (Wright 38 mins) - ICT 1 (Black pen 12 mins)
Kilmarnock started the second half well and went ahead four minutes into the second period, midfielder Craig Bryson picked up the ball and fired in a 30 yard strike which bounced up, deceived Michael Fraser in the ICT goal and nestled in the bottom right hand corner.
Six minutes later Killie made it number three and Bryson had his second of the afternoon. Good movement by Tom Glancy on the right set up the opportunity and from his cut back Bryson side footed the ball home which took a slight deflection off Phil McGuire who had attempted to block the shot.
We made our first substitution of the afternoon in the 62nd minute replacing Iain Vigurs with Richie Hart, his first involvement since the beginning of January.
Within a minute Kilmarnock hit us for four and wrapped the three points. David Fernandez broke on the left hand side of the box and slid the ball back for the supporting Iain Flannigan and despite being under pressure he volleyed the ball home from 12 yards.
Midfielder Dougie Imrie replaced Roy McBain with 17 minutes of the match remaining and four minutes later Rory McAllister came on for Marius Niculae.
Six minutes before the end the hard working Graham Bayne headed over the bar after a good cross from the left. Rory McAllister was booked on the 85th minute for a foul on Tom Glancy.
