 Match Report

We faced another trip down the A9 today to take on Queen of the South and after Tuesday night's 2-0 away win to Greenock Morton Manager Terry Butcher unsurprisingly started with the same line up.

With ten minutes played it was Queens who took the lead, Rocco Quinn had time to play the  ball wide on the right for winger Willie McLaren, he cut inside and his drilled low shot beat Ryan Esson at his near post to make it 1-0.

Queen of the South goalkeeper Scott Fox was in inspired form firstly denying Eric Odhiambo's shot and then an even better save from an Adam Rooney header.

But Rooney was not to be denied for long and he equalised three minutes before the break.  Richie Foran stole away from Joe Hamill down the left and he cut the ball across the six yard box for Rooney to smash the ball high into the net for his 23rd of the season.

Into the second half and both teams searched for the lead, firstly Queen of the South had a goal ruled out for offside when Stewart Keen put the ball over the line with his chest from a Willie McLaren cross.

Within minutes we had the all important lead and this time it was captain Grant Munro who got himself on the scoresheet with a powerful header after Richie Foran teed him up.

On the 73rd minute Queens were reduced to ten men when full back Bob Harris saw red for a late challenge on Jonny Hayes as the Irishman broke inside the Queens half.

There was still time just at the end for Adam Rooney to secure his second of the afternoon and number 24 of the campaign when he picked up a pass, stepped forward and stroked the ball home with great composure.

The final whistle sounded shortly afterwards as we maintained our seven point lead at the top of the table, making it 18 games unbeaten.
