We travelled to Firhill today to take on Partick Thistle with the First Division Championship race hotting up.  Manager Terry Butcher made one change from the side that defeated Airdrie 4-0 on Tuesday night with Eric Odhiambo replacing Dani Sanchez.

We started the game well and in eight minutes Richie Foran broke free in the Partick box but under pressure from defender Alan Archibald he hit the ball straight at goalkeeper Jonny Tuffey.

Eight minutes later and Richie came even closer to the opener, Adam Rooney released him in the box and from 12 yards his shot looked goal bound until Tuffey pushed the ball onto the cross bar.

Partick Thistle finally created an opening of their own with 25 minutes played, Simon Donnelly set up striker Liam Buchanan and his shot forced Ryan Esson into save at his near post.

Adam Rooney was proving a real handful for the Partick Thistle defence and it was no surprise when the striker opened the scoring after a period of sustained pressure on the home side's goal.  Richie Foran made himself some space on the left and his cross was perfect for the head of Rooney, who gave Tuffey no chance from six yards.

Into the second half and we continued to test Thistle keeper Tuffey, firstly he blocked an Adam Rooney effort from 6 yards and then from the resulting rebound he put Jonny Hayes strike behind for a corner kick.

On 63 minutes Partick keeper Jonny Tuffey then produced another wonder save, this time from the boot of Lee Cox who fired in from 25 yards only for the keeper to push the ball behind for another corner kick.

Partick Thistle were claiming for a penalty on 83 minutes when they thought that David Proctor had handled when he had blocked a Liam Buchanan shot but referee McDermott waved away appeals and awarded a corner kick as we held out for all three points.

With Dundee only drawing against Ross County we moved to the top of the table with our unbeaten run extending to 14 games.
