Greenock Morton were the visitors to the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium today and with Richie Foran suspended for the next two games Manager Terry Butcher gave Nick Ross his chance on the left hand side, a day after the youngster signed a new one year contract.

On 14 minutes Adam Rooney got his first real sight of goal when he was released in behind the Morton defence but with the goalkeeper advancing towards him his chipped effort went wide of the far post.

Eric Odhaimbo produced a neat bit of skill on the right flank, flicking the ball past two defenders but there were no takers for his low cross into the box as we struggled to break down the Morton defence.

However just before the half-time whistle Morton came close to opening the scoring when a wicked inswinging corner kick from Michael Tidser looked goal bound until Stuart Golabek headed off the line.  Within seconds and a Ross Tokely effort was blocked by a Morton defender just as the referee blew the half-time whistle.

Ten minutes into the second period a good move involving Golabek and Odhiambo released Jonny Hayes just outside the box on the right hand side and he measured a curling left footed shot which just evaded the far post.

Finally on the 64th minute we opened the scoring, a good pass from Russell Duncan put Adam Rooney through and from a tight angle his left footed shot was blocked by the foot of Morton goalkeeper Kevin Cuthbert but the rebound fell kindly for youngster Nick Ross and he side footed home from six yards.

Morton rarely ventured up the park but on one occasion they did Ryan Esson had to look alert when Jim McAllister's 25 yard shot took a deflection but Ryan gathered to his left easily.

Goal scorer Nick Ross was replaced by Robert Eagle with ten minutes to play and shortly afterwards Daniel Stratford came on for Eric Odhiambo.
