 Match Report

We made the trip down to Ayrshire to face Kilmarnock in the 5th round of the Active Nation Scottish Cup looking to take a second SPL scalp after defeating Motherwell in the previous round, a result which saw us presented with the Team of the Round.  Manager Terry Butcher kept the same starting eleven that defeated Partick Thistle in the league last weekend.

We made a bright start to the game and gave Kilmarnock problems, a few minutes in David Proctor let fly from 20 yards out but goalkeeper Cammy Bell stretched to make the save.  Adam Rooney threatened on seven minutes when he drove past a couple of Killie challenges but his shot was blocked by Cammy Bell.

On 28 minutes Kilmarnock took the lead against the run of play when a ball into the box found big forward Connor Sammon and he flicked the ball over Ryan Esson into the net.

Within minutes we came close to a well deserved equaliser, Richie Foran crossed in from the left for Dani Sanchez and he lifted the ball over Bell but the ball was cleared off the line.

Eight minutes after taking the lead and Kilmarnock extended their advantage, when young midfielder Liam Kelly fired in a 20 yard shot was beat Ryan Esson between the sticks.

Despite starting the second period well we found ourselves three behind on the hour mark, left back Lionel Djebi-Zadi controlled the ball in the six yard box but hesitated with his clearance and Liam Kelly nipped in to punish us with his second goal of the afternoon.

We continued to put pressure on the Kilmarnock defence but despite creating the chances we could not find a way through.  A superb volley by Richie Foran had goal written all over it until Cammy Bell produced an excellent save to push the ball away for a corner.

Manager Terry Butcher made a double substitution on the 63rd minute replacing Nauris Bulvitis and Dani Sanchez with Russell Duncan and Eric Odhiambo.

Kilmarnock goalkeeper Cammy Bell once again denied us when he showed quick reactions to prevent a 20 yard dipping volley from substitute Eric Odhiambo from pulling a goal back.  Bell continued to twart us from netting a goal, this time preventing a back post header from Grant Munro going over the line.

Full-time score: Kilmarnock 3 (Sammon 28 mins, Kelly 36 & 60 mins) - ICT 0
