We welcomed Raith Rovers to the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium today and Manager Terry Butcher was forced into two changes after last week's 1-1 draw at Queen of the South last Saturday. Russell Duncan and Richie Foran were both suspended after their ordering offs and this meant an immediate start for Stuart Duff, who signed on a month's loan on Friday and a recall for Dani Sanchez. With Ross Tokely and Stuart Golabek still injured David Proctor and Lionel Djebi-Zadi continued in the full back positions.
We made a promising opening to the game and had our first chance on the 8th minute, Lee Cox laid the ball back to Jonny Hayes on the right and he swung over a cross for the head of the unmarked Adam Rooney but he headed wide of goal. Shortly afterwards Jonny Hayes got a sight of goal but he dragged his shot wide of the far post.
On the 23rd minute we took the lead with a stunning finish, from a quick counter attack Jonny Hayes released Adam Rooney in behind the Raith defence and despite being a tight angle on the left hand side of the box he smashed home a low drive which went in off the near post.
We then saw the introduction a yellow football as the mist around the Stadium appeared to worsen. With half hour played we again broke quickly up field and came close to number two. Adam Rooney once again raced clear of the Raith defenders and his square pass fed Dani Snachez but he drove his shot straight at the goalkeeper.
Half-time score: ICT 1 (Rooney 23 mins) - Raith Rovers 0
Six minutes into the second half we again threatened the Raith goal, a superb free kick by Jonny Hayes across the face of goal looked set to bundled over by Nauris Bulvitis but the ball was deflected behind by centre half Dougie Hill.
A long range effort from Lee Cox saw Raith goalkeeper David McGurn spill the ball but the Raith man collected the ball again quickly before we could take advantage and on the 69th minute defender Dougie Hill collected his second yellow card for a cruel tackle from behind on Adam Rooney. Dougie Imrie then replaced Eric Odhiambo as we went in search of a second goal to kill off the game.
A rapid fire break after a Raith corner kick saw us spurn another good chance, Jonny Hayes played a neat reverse pass to release Adam Rooney over the half-way line and his pass put Lee Cox in on goal all be it at a tight angle. His low shot was deflected onto the post by David McGurn and he dived quickly to smother the rebound.
Robert Eagle came on for Dani Sanchez with ten minutes left after the Spanaird took a heavy challenge on the half-way line from Stephen Simmons, who received a yellow card.
Before the end Grant Munro sent a header goalwards from a Stuart Duff cross on the right hand side but David McGurn got down low to push the ball behind for a corner kick which came to nothing. Right at the death Daniel Stratford came on for Jonny Hayes. The three points meant we moved up into 5th in the league table.
