After last week's 5-1 thumping win over Ayr United Manager Terry Butcher started with the same line up for today's visit of Greenock Morton which meant an attacking 4-2-3-1.
It was a bright opening to the game and with 20 minutes played we took the lead with a great goal, Stuart Golabek played a long pass forward which Dougie Imrie headed down and Adam Rooney latched onto it and dispatched the ball into the bottom corner.
Eleven minutes later and we made it number two, a Dougie Imrie corner was headed goalwards by Adam Rooney which Morton goalkeeper Colin Stewart pushed away and defender Nauris Bulvitis was on hand to fire high into the net.
However Morton pulled a goal back on the 33rd minute when Erik Paartalu waltzed past a couple of poor challenges in the box and placed the ball past Ryan Esson into the far bottom corner of the net.
Three minutes before the break we restored our two goal advantage, another long pass from Golabek picked out Richie Foran and he held onto the ball before slipping it into the path of the supporting Adam Rooney who side footed the ball home.
Half-time score: ICT 3 (Rooney 20 & 42 mins, Bulvitis 31 mins) - Greenock Morton 1 (Paartalu 33 mins)
Five minutes into the second period and we made it four from the penalty spot, Dougie Imrie was pulled back in box by David McGregor and Adam Rooney made no mistake smashing the ball home to complete his hat-trick.
On the 63rd minute the hard working Richie Foran was replaced by Jonny Hayes. Six minutes later Adam Rooney came close to claiming his fourth when he got his head to a cross from Dougie Imrie but Morton keeper Colin Stewart denied with a fine save at his near post.
Midfielder Lee Cox came on for Dougie Imrie with ten minutes left to play. Shortly afterwards Russell Duncan picked up a yellow card for a late tackle on Morton substitute Ryan Kane.
With four minutes to go hat-trick hero Adam Rooney was given a standing ovation as he was replaced by Andy Barrowman. The final whistle arrived shortly afterwards and with it our first home league since the 4th April against St Mirren.
