Manager Terry Butcher made one change for the visit of Queen of the South today from the side that defeated Ross County in the semi-final of the Alba Challenge Cup last Sunday. Right back Ross Tokely came back in after injury and suspension replacing David Proctor who had to settle for a place on the bench. Ex-ICT stalwarts Dennis Wyness and Barry Wilson were amongst the oppositions' squad with Wyness starting up front and Wilson on the bench.
The game sparked into life in the opening minute with Queens taking the lead, Dennis Wyness was involved in the build up releasing ex-Ross County striker Derek Holmes and he slammed home a volley from 25 yards with only 32 seconds on the clock.
However we reacted well to going a goal down and on the 18th minute we were on level terms when Jonny Hayes fired home a brilliant free kick from just outside the box. Despite forcing most of the play for the remainder of the first half we could not find a way through for number two.
With seven minutes remaining there was a double sting in the tail, firstly Derek Holmes headed home a free kick from close range and right on full-time he completed his hat-trick with a low drive from 10 yards.
Full-time score: ICT 1 (Hayes 18 mins) - Queen of the South 3 (Holmes, 1, 83 & 90 mins)
