 Match Report

Manager Terry Butcher made three changes for the 3rd round Co-operative Insurance Cup clash against Motherwell at Fir Park this evening from the side that drew 1-1 with Airdrie United in the league at the weekend.  Right back Ross Tokely missed out with a hamstring strain and was replaced by David Proctor.  Winger Robert Eagle dropped out the squad and Danni Sanchez dropped onto the bench with Russell Duncan and Lionel Djebi-Zadi taking their places.

Motherwell opened the scoring three minutes after the half hour mark when Robert McHugh got ahead of marker Nauris Bulvitis to head home a Yassin Moutaouakil cross from the right.

Having only been on the field for eight minutes substitute Andy Barrowman netted an equaliser with his head from six yards after a whipped free kick by winger Jonny Hayes.  Within two minutes we were down to ten men with David Proctor receiving a second yellow card, his first coming on the half hour mark.

Four minutes into extra-time Motherwell again took the lead when defender Nauris Bulvitis diverted a Steven Hammell low cross into the box past the helpless Ryan Esson.  However we came storming back to once again draw level when Captain Grant Munro looped a header from a Jonny Hayes corner over the head of Motherwell goalkeeper John Ruddy.

But with a minute of the 120 minutes left to play we were hit with a sucker punch when youngster Ross Forbes nipped past a couple of challenges before smashing the ball high into the net to make it 3-2.
