 Match Report

Manager Terry Butcher made two changes from last Saturday's game against Annan Athletic for the first league game of the 2009/10 season against Dunfermline Athletic at East End Park.  Goalkeeper Ryan Esson returned from injury replacing Kyle Allison and with Ross Tokely suspended David Proctor started at right back.  Recent signing Jonny Hayes returned from injury and took a place on the bench.

We made a lively opening to the game backed by our noisy band of supporters in the Main Stand.  In the 7th minute we had our first shot on goal when a Daniel Stratford header down on the edge of the box was met by Lee Cox but his volley from 25 yards went well over the bar.

However as time went on Dunfermline forced themselves back into proceedings and Andy Kirk was unlucky to see a dipping volley go just over the bar in the 19th minute.  Play was end to end and three minutes later Lionel Djebi-Zadi went rampaging down the left into the box and flashed a fierce shot across the face of goal.

With 28 minutes gone we missed a great chance to open the scoring when a neat touch from Danni Sanchez released Adam Rooney in behind the Dunfermline defence but he dragged his shot wide of goal with only Greg Fleming to beat.

Ex-Aberdeen player Stephen Glass threatened nine minutes before the break with a left footed free kick but his 25 yard set piece went past the post.

Right on the half-time whistle only an excellent block by Grant Munro in his six yard box prevented from Dunfermline from opening the scoring with Steven Bell looking odds on to score after a mix up at the back post.

Half-time score: Dunfermline 0 - ICT 0

Adam Rooney was issued with a yellow card by referee Dougie McDonald for speaking out of turn on the 50th minute after Danni Sanchez had his jersey tugged in the Pars penalty box.

A Dougie Imrie 35 yard drive stung the hands of Dunfermline goalkeeper Greg Fleming on the hour mark and shortly afterwards Andy Kirk fired over for the Pars after some neat build up play from ex-ICT striker Graham Bayne.

With 66 minutes gone Ryan Esson had to be alert to push a Willie Gibson long range strike over the bar as the home team looked for the all important opener.  Two minutes later and we made our first change of the afternoon taking off Robert Eagle and replacing him with Jonny Hayes.

Fifteen minutes before the end Dougie Imrie was replaced after suffering a knock to his right knee and Roy McBain came on.  A Roy McBain cross from the right was headed goalwards by Lee Cox and almost crept under the bar until Fleming pushed the ball over for a corner kick which came to nothing.

Nine minutes before the end Pars striker Andy Kirk struck the outside of the post with a fine shot on the turn and as play raged to the other end Danni Sanchez saw his shot from an Adam Rooney cross deflected behind.

Youngster Shane Sutherland came on with five minutes to play for Danni Sanchez.and just when it looked like the game would end goal less young midfielder Lee Cox popped up with a stunning winner thumped home from outside the box.
